Throwback Thursday with Redneck Robby: The Little Lake Purchase that Almost Was.

Howdy, y’all! It’s Redneck Robby here, and I’ve got a tale from back in the day that’s perfect for Throwback Thursday. Now, listen up, ’cause this one’s a doozy.

So, a few years ago, our POA board was kickin’ around the idea of buyin’ the property with the little lake on it. I tell ya, the thought of having our own spot for fishin’ and swimmin’ had us all pretty excited. It sounded like a real good time.

But, of course, things ain’t never as simple as they seem. We got to talkin’ and realized we’d need to check on the dam holdin’ back that lake. Couldn’t just jump in without knowin’ what we were dealin’ with, right?

We would have to bring in some expert to take a look, and boy, would that cost some money. We found out stuff on our own to, like the dam needed to have the big trees cut off it. There were animal burrows in there as well, and all sorts of signs that it hadn’t been taken care of in a long while. We figured out right quick if we didn’t keep it up, there was a real high risk it could fail.

Now, if that wasn’t enough to give us pause, we also found out that takin’ on this dam would mean our insurance costs would go through the roof. Maintaining the dam and coverin’ the liability if anything went wrong wasn’t gonna be cheap.

Well, after hearin’ all that, it didn’t take long for us to realize that buyin’ that property was a bad idea. Sure, havin’ our own little lake sounded great, but the costs and risks were just too high.

So, we decided to pass on it. Sometimes, you gotta know when to walk away from a bad deal, and this was one of those times.

And that’s the story of how the Camp Branch Acres POA almost bought a little lake but decided it wasn’t worth the trouble. Remember, folks, sometimes the best decisions are the ones where you decide not to do somethin’!
